Bios
Robby Aaron Young has been a professional choreographer/teacher for 15 years. He has worked for Disney as a character, model, choreographer for the movie turned video game "The Cheeta Girls One World." He was also a part of one of Seattle's biggest Hip Hop team KM (Kontagious Movement), where they were awarded Seattle's very first WOD (World of Dance) Champions.
Eberley Wedlake is a student of Ana Montes of Flamenco Danzarte, a performer and teacher of Spanish Flamenco dancing to students of all ages in Seattle. Tangos is a musical form (palo) belonging to the art of flamenco, which originated in the South of Spain. It is typically counted in fours and danced alone (rather than in partners, as is the common misconception of flamenco). Exhibiting Afro-Cuban influences, tangos are lively and emotive.
D'vorah Kost has been teaching traditional, basic and easy Jewish Folk Dances here and there and off and on for 40 years, including at the World Dance Parties. Today she has chosen a couple of simple circle dances: "Zemer Atik," and "Mayim," and one slightly more complex, but very lovely, "Ma Navu". The latter two have lyrics from Isaiah.
Angela Silling is a life-long dancer, with many years of learning, performing and teaching bellydance under her hip belt. She co-produces a long-running monthy bellydance show at the Skylark Cafe & Club in West Seattle called Alauda (Ah LOUD ah) which takes place the third Tuesdays of the month. She is also a part of Rebel Belly Productions, a local company that creates theatre-quality full length dance shows. She is so happy to be joining the World Dance Party here at FolkLife. This is her fourth WDP (third as a teacher) and strongly believes that dancing together can change the world!
The Sliders is a senior dancing group that loves to come out and perform. Since its inception in 1994, they have danced everywhere from assisted living home to Seattle Storm Games. Ann King is now leading the group and has introduced new dance moves to music ranging from R&B to country. She has also taken the group to several major performances. The Sliders are big part of the World Dance Party community and are proud to participate in the Northwest Folklife Festival. The group is filled with seniors but anyone is more than welcome to join!
Magnus Mosery, a multicultural diverse and intercultural communications specialist and West African Music & Dance instructor, hails originally from Sierra Leone. He is from the Mende Tribe, the largest ethnic group in Sierra Leone that occupies two thirds of the population. The dance and music he teaches originates from a Warrior's decent and it demonstrates Freedom, Strength, Courage, Purpose, and Taking Over the Land. It involves a physical ability and mental focus with full body motion dancing to the rhythm of the music in a non-stop sequence. The melody of the music is very romantic yet firm and strong in words which most times is a "War Cry" but in a poetic style.
